Upgrades to items allow players to boost the gear score of an item to 700, and then add an additional perk. Items can be upgraded if they're in your inventory and you bring them to the Kiln.

Certain items can be upgraded to increase their stats (like a perfectly made breakpoint armour that can be rolled to use in melee PvP) while other items, such as weapons don't change much post upgrade, and therefore aren't worth upgrading.

Weapons

Weapons can be upgraded to boost their numeric stats such as the chance to crit, attack damage PvE and damage to PvP. They also have an unchanging bonus that increases their damage per second. For instance the Champion Leathers can be upgraded to +5 defense, allowing you to keep pace with a decent-sized group of enemies in most cold environments and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded all the way to +20 defense, granting you enough protection to survive a full on raid with a few of your friends.

Note that armor can't be upgraded in the same way as weapons, so you'll need to work on upgrading it for physical power if you're a Warrior or Spell Power in the case of Mage. It's also worth saving your armor upgrades to use for armor you'll still be wearing at the end of the game, such as the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield or the helmet you use to fight the final boss, the Monter Parts Merchant's mask.

You can also gain perks for your armor by presenting the jeweler in Gerudo Town 10 Twinkling Titanite. Potions

Potions are liquids that when consumed by the participant, produce an immediate effect. There are five kinds of potions, each having specific effects and durations. Trinkets can be re-upgraded once they're not needed which allows a player to boost their power and value over time. They can also be traded between players and are a popular alternative to gold.

Players must upgrade their most valuable items first. This means that the top-in slot items for each class are upgraded first then their secondary gear and other equipment that they won't be replacing in the near future (such as a ring or an cloak).
