The upgrade of your items is an essential aspect of equipping your character. Upgrades boost the base damage and enhancements of items.

They also provide bonuses and enhancements. They can be purchased from the Blacksmith.

The upgrade button is located on any item. Each item recycled adds a level to the gauge of upgrade.

Weapons

If a weapon is upgraded, it will gain a base damage bonus, as well as an adjustment factor that affects other stats. After the weapon has reached its maximum level of improvement and is then rebuilt to add additional bonuses and effects or improve specific stats. A variety of these upgrades can be re-applied at once, and their effects vary depending on the nature of the weapon.

There are two Blacksmiths in the game who can perform these upgrades: Blacksmith Hewg in the Church of Elleh hub area, and Smithing Master Iji on the Road to the Manor Site of Grace. Both upgrade materials are different: Smithing Stones to modify the damage weapons deal and Somber Smithing Stones to alter the standard weapons.

Generally, it is recommended to increase the damage of your weapon first, followed by armor defense, and finally the other secondary stats as required by your build. In particular, it's common to see melee druids upgrading their weapon before they upgrade any other gear, as this will increase DPS. This is particularly relevant for enchantments that increase a weapon's stats as well as damage.

Armor

Item Upgrades allow players to increase the effectiveness of certain weapons, armors trinkets, trinkets, or gathering tools. These upgrades may also have other effects, such as an increase in damage or cosmetic enhancements. Item Upgrades can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from NPC vendors or loot drops, or as quest rewards.

Depending on the type of armor, upgrading an item can require multiple attempts. For example the case of a player wanting to upgrade a Steelclash armor to Dragonscale the first attempt will result in a brand new piece of Dragonscale with the base defense of 59 and 67. The second attempt would result in a new Dragonscale armor that has a base defense between 67-77 and it goes on.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild lets players upgrade their armor sets to level 4. To do this it is necessary to visit each of the four locations known as Great Fairy Fountains in the game. Each of these locations contains an incredibly fair that can upgrade a piece of armor for you.
